Your hosts, Adrian, Angela and Stephen met at the University of Surrey in the 1980’s where they studied Hotel & Catering Administration. On graduating, Adrian worked as a General Manager for the outside catering firm, Kennedy Brookes; Angela as Front of House Manager, firstly for Crest Hotels, then at the London Tara Hotel; and Stephen as Food & Beverage Manager with Crest Hotels, before working for Rank Hovis McDougall. Adrian and Angela married in 1987 and their two children, Casey and Matthew, are also now both married and have children of their own.
It was in November 1992 that the three bought their dream hotel where Adrian is the (self-taught) Head Chef, Angela takes care of Housekeeping and Stephen oversees the Restaurant and Bar.
Adrian’s brigade have been with him for a combined total of over 30 years! Dawn, his Second Chef, joined Overwater Hall in 1993, and, with a short break to have a baby, has worked here ever since. She is the talented and artistic Pastry Chef, and covers for Adrian on his days off. The two have now been cooking together for so long that consistency in the Restaurant is assured.
Chef de Partie Karen who also covers Adrian on days off and commis chefs Rene and Victoria complete the Kitchen brigade. The team were winners of the Taste Cumbria Award at the Cumbria Tourism Awards 2012, and subsequently completed their triumph by taking the Taste Gold Award at the National Finals at Old Trafford, Manchester, in May 2013.
Rene’s wife, Katalin, is our Assistant Manager and resident wine expert, and Patryk, Andrea and Simon complete our enthusiastic restaurant team.
In the Housekeeping department, the story is very similar, with two ladies having worked at Overwater since before the current owners arrived!
There must be something very special about this place that keeps its staff for so long.
