PROUD TO BE A NATIONAL FINALIST

Overwater Hall is proud to have been a national finalist in this year's VisitEngland Excellence Awards, and also at the Cumbria Tourism Awards 2011 where the hotel was a finalist in the Taste of Cumbria Award and our assistant manager Luke was a finalist in the Sheila Hensman Customer Service Award.

Sadly there were no trophies to bring home this time, but we are consoling ourselves with the fact that 'being a finalist represents a very significant achievement in its own right', Anna Adrien, Business Development Executive, VisitEngland.

And of course we get to keep the trophies awarded last year when we were named Best Small Hotel of the Year 2010 at both the Cumbria and the Northwest of England Tourism Awards.

We were thrilled to win these coveted titles, and especially pleased that the efforts of our highly professional, friendly and dedicated staff have been recognised through these fine accolades.

Felicity Goodey, Chair of Tourism England’s Northwest, said:

“It just gets better and better. Each year we celebrate some of the best of our many outstanding businesses which, together, have established the Northwest as one of the most popular visitor destinations in the country. We are used to them going on to win national awards and I have every confidence that last night’s winners will be the ones to beat at the next National finals. The region owes them a big ‘thank you’. It’s their vision, backed up by hard work, training and investment, which have built tourism into one of this region’s most important industries.”

What the 'Mystery Shoppers' had to say about us...

'The hotel exterior was excellent. After a winding drive down the hill, Overwater Hall comes into view in a beautiful garden setting. The exterior itself was imposing and enticing, maintained in excellent order and made the customer feel positive about their decision to stay.'

The hotel interior was excellent

Ongoing investment appears to have been going on at the hotel over many years. The entrance hall was impressive with a small lounge area and impressive cornicing, then through to the staircase with a wonderful high ceiling and individual furnishings in-keeping with the style of the building.

Overall, the bedroom was excellent. The room was large and carefully thought out in terms of design. The ‘Garden Room’ style was subtle in decor, but the quality was certainly there. There were no facilities like a fridge or air conditioning, but that didn’t seem to matter, as a small lounge area was provided with flat screen TV with build in DVD player and iPod docking station. The bed was large and comfortable and the little touches like the flowers, fruit and tipple were much appreciated. Even the milk in the flask was a good idea.

What made the room stand out however was the little terrace with 2 seats, a small table and bird/squirrel feeders. From inside the room we were able to watch and photograph as they fed. Once outside we had full access to the gardens and were able to see lambs in the field that bordered the garden.

The bathroom was excellent. The ensuite bathroom was large, having a Jacuzzi bath and spacious separate shower. It was spotlessly clean, nicely designed, being modern but still in-keeping with the feel of the hotel.

The public areas were beautifully decorated and furnished to a very high standard. The main lounge in particular was a stunning room with a grand fireplace and lots of light, with the dining room of equal quality. The entrance hall was certainly visually very strong with bold wall coverings and carpets and the small bar area was comfortable and friendly.
