Overwater Hall has been designated a 3 Star Country House Hotel by the AA. A Country House Hotel is described as one having ‘ample grounds or gardens, in a rural or semi-rural situation with an emphasis on peace and quiet.’ Clearly this describes Overwater Hall well. In order to be awarded 3 stars, we must provide certain facilities:
In our opinion, these additional requirements for a 4th or 5th star would not make Overwater Hall a better hotel, in terms of the quality and service our guests currently enjoy, and how many guests really need 24 hour room service? It is also interesting to note that at our last inspection we were awarded 4 stars for overall quality, cleanliness and food, but that because of the limitations of our facilities as described above, we are only able to achieve a 3 star rating overall. The AA recognises that a hotel might offer a high quality experience but not provide all of the facilities required for a higher rating, hence its Merit Award. Overwater Hall scores very highly here with 85%. With regard to the AA’s Rosette system of recognising excellent food, Overwater Hall currently holds 2 rosettes. The AA states that 2 rosettes will be awarded to: ‘The best local restaurants, offering higher standards and better consistency. Greater precision is apparent in the cooking, and there is obvious attention to the quality and selection of ingredients.’ |
